Sensitization program for staff of Kalyani Kidney Care Centre

  • On 17th July, 2014 an organ donation sensitzation session was organized at Kalyani Kidney Care Centre, Erode. MOHAN Foundation, Chennai was invited to conduct the session. The initiative to organize the session was taken by Dr. M. Prabakaran, Urologist and Managing Director, Mr. Balani Swamy  and Mr. Netaji, Transplant coordinators, Kalyani Kidney Centre, Erode.

     

    Mr. Ananth R, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai addressed the gathering and explained about the various concepts related to deceased organ donation. The interactive session helped the Training students (Pharmacy, Dialysis technician)   to clarify their doubts.

     

     The main topics discussed during the presentation were:

    • Blood Donation and its benefits
    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Procedure for eye donation
    • Brain Death- how it is different from natural death and coma
    • Organs that can be donated after brain death and natural death
    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994
    • Statistics of donors in Tamil Nadu
    • Role of Transplant Coordinators in Hospitals
    • Activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the Deceased Organ Donation programme

     

    Finally Transplant patients shared their pre, post health condition. 23 staff of the insitutue attended the session and 20 of them picked the donor card.
