Seniors of the Maheshwari community endorse organ donation in Nagpur

  • Dr. Ravi Wankhede was invited by the senior citizen group members of Jeshtha Maheswari sabha gruha, Buldi, Nagpur to deliver a talk on Organ Donation and Transplantation on 2nd November 2014. Mr. Rakesh Bhiya welcomed Dr. Ravi Wankhede and the members of the group. He was the program organizer. More than 100 members were presented during the talk. 

     

    Dr. Wankhede gave a powerpoint presentation. He highlights the historic aspect to the recent advances of transplantation which help people to get new life. 

     

    He stressed on the need to accept 'brain death' as a permanent and irreversible condition from various causes which could help several people get life saving organs. He informed the audience that this is a regular practice in the developed countries and also in Tamil Nadu State of India. Dr. Wankhede asked people to learn from Tamilnadu and other States in the South. He said all this happened because of mass awareness and helpful medical services in the State. He said Maharashtra also should strive for such a development. He explained the  concepts of organ donation.

    1. What are age limits of skin donation?

    2. What are age limits of Eye donation?

    3. Does any other Organ has ability to grow like Liver?

     

    The number of people who attended 120 and 30 people picked up the organ donation forms. 4 pledged to donate. The rest they will be discuss with their family and signed pledge form.
