Organ donation awareness talk for students of Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai

  • On 17th October 2016, Rotaract Club of Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai conducted a session on organ donation for the students. They sent a letter to the dean, Rajaji Government Hospital, Madurai, with permission from the dean, transplant coordinator Mr. S. Venkatesh, MOHAN Foundation went to the college.

    Mr. R. G. Raghupathy convener Rotaract gave the welcome speech and Mr.  Gnanasanthar, Vice president, Miss. Kowsalya President and Mr. Santhaakarupu Secretary were also present at the session.

    Mr. Venkatesh began with a Q and A session to gauge their understanding of the topic.

    He spoke of the importance of understanding organ donation, and started with a movie and the concepts of organ donation and ended with another educational film clip explaining brain death. The session was more of a discussion on brain death, lack of information in hospitals, registries for patients and the whole coordination concept. At the end he shared donor stories.

    Two sessions were held, one in the morning  and another  in the afternoon. More than 400 students  participated , everyone picked a donor card and pledged to take this message to their families and friends. As the Transplant Coordinator I thank the college principal and Mr. G. Ragupathy Rotaract convener, the organizing team of students and all the students who participated in the programme.
