Organ donation awareness talk at Shivaji Science College, Nagpur

  • On the occasion of Organ Donation Day, 13 August 2016, Shivaji Science College, Congress Nagar, Nagpur invited MOHAN Foundation to talk on Deceased Organ donation. Dr.  B. K Burghate, Principal and Dr.  A. V.  Avchar Vice-principal of the college were present at the session. Dr. S. S. Deshmukh of the college organised the session.

    Ms. Kanchan Shewde, Organ Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation gave a presentation on the concepts of Organ donation.  She spoke of the type of Organ donation, types of death and understanding of brain death, natural death, process of eye donation and body donation and the importance of Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994.

    She explained the role of ZTCC for organ donation transplantation and gave examples of true heroes who donated their organs.  She told about Mohan Foundation activities and request all to use MOHAN Foundation website & helpline number.

    Following questions were asked by the participants.

    What is the difference between coma & brain death?

    In which case bonemerrow transplant is needed?

    If I sign the consent form, how MOHAN Foundation will know of my death?

    For the program 150 students and some lecturers were present.  5 students signed the consent form. At the end Dr. S. S. Deshmukh thanked Dr. Ravi Wankhede and the MOHAN Foundation team.
