Organ donation awareness session at K.J. Somaiya College of Physiotherapy, Mumbai

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness session at K.J. Somaiya College of Physiotherapy, Everardnagar, Sion(E), Mumbaion 14th September 2016 for its interns, students and doctors.

     

    Mrs. Jaya Jairam began the session with an introduction to MOHAN Foundation, its mission and its activities. She then went on to cover the following topics - what is Organ Donation, why is it needed, why is the deceased Organ donation rate so low in India, how can the barriers to Organ donation be overcome, what are the myths and facts and finally how one can support organ donation if they wished to.

     

    She spoke about her own personal story of how she had to undergo a kidney transplant 6 years back and how it has motivated her to support the cause of Organ donation.

     

    A 2 minute video was show to the audience which went on to show how one organ donor saved many lives and that death is not the end of life.

     

    A few queries that were asked were answered. Subsequently, the Principal of the college, Dr.Veena Krishnanand appealed to the audience to support the cause by giving an inspiring example of how one of their colleagues saved many lives after he was declared brain dead.

     

    She was the first person to sign up, thereby leading by example. The group of doctors and interns also signed up to show their support and pledged their organs.

     

    MOHAN Foundation thanks Dr. Veena Krishnanand, Dr.Basavaraj Chandu and rest of the team at K.J.Somaiya College of Physiotherapy.
