Organ donation awareness conducted at Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers at Dahanu, Maharashtra

  • On 19th April 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited to Dahanu at Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers to conduct an awareness talk on Organ Donation for the staff of Rustomjee Academy.

    The session was started by Ms. Jaya Jairam by asking what came to their minds when they thought of Organ Donation. There were mixed responses- some positive as well as some negative responses.

    MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and history were introduced to the audience. The concept of organ donation was introduced and types of organs and tissues that can be donated, types of death, what is brain death and cardiac death, difference between brain death and coma were presented. She also discussed the various myths and facts pertaining to organ donation.Information about organ allocation and distribution was also shared.

    One of the staff from the audience shared his personal experience about his mother suffering from kidney failure.Another person spoke about his friend’s father not being able to survive kidney failure.

    Ms. Jaya Jairam also shared her personal story about how she battled kidney failure and was saved when her mother donated one of her kidneysto her.

    Out of the 53 strong audience, many took the pledge. We wish to thank the Dean, Mr. Sanjay Sadhu and Mr. Shankar Singh for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.

This session was very knowledgeable and taught us many such facts which was unaware. It also made us think in the direction which we would never had thought of probably. Thanks to Ms. Jaya.
