  • Mr. Sunil G. Lacharwar, Founder of Army Air Force Navy Ex-service Men Welfare Organisation, invited MOHAN Foundation  to talk to the members about deceased organ donation on 26 January 2014. Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director & Transplant co-coordinators, Mr. Bulu Behara and Ms. Kanchan Shewde represented MOHAN Foundation.

Dr. Ravi Wankhede spoke about deceased organ donation. He highlighted which organs and tissues can be donated after brain death, natural death and what is live donation. He explained the THO Act and the government rules.   He made the participants understand that after brain death it is impossible to come back to life. Yet if a family gives consent then organs from a brain death patient can help more than 50 organ and tissue failure patients.

The following questions were raised by the participants:

    1.  What is the process for body donation?
    2.  Is it possible for everyone to donate their eyes?
    3.  How burn patient will get the skin for transplant?

At the end of discussion, 1 participant picked a donor card out of 15 participants.
