Organ Donation Day Awareness Program at Western Command, Chandimandir (Chandigarh)

  • On 24th August 2017, MOHAN Foundation Chandigarh was invited by Maj. Gen. Rashmi Dutta, Commandant, Command Hospital and Col. Rajat Shukla, Chief Gastroenterologist, to deliver a session on Organ Donation and Recipients’ Perspective during “Organ Donation Day” function at Manekshaw Auditorium, Chandimandir. Mrs. Sukhwinder Kaur wife of GOC in C and President AWWA was the chief guest. More than 1500 officers and their families attended.

     

    Maj. Gen. Rashmi Dutta, Commandant addressed the audience on the need for Organ Pledging and revival of Organ Retrieval Program at Command Hospital. She has been part of the Transplant Co-ordinator’s Training program at AHRR Hospital, New Delhi conducted by MOHAN Foundation.

     

    Col. Rajat Shukla gave a presentation on the aspects of Brain Death and the organs, which can be utilized for saving many lives. He stressed that one Donor can save lives of at least 8 persons.

     

    Mr. Sudhir Dewan took up from where Col. Rajat left and explained on the numbers on the waiting list and how much deficient we are in transplantation with cadaver organs. He talked about his personal experience and the pain that he went through in search of an organ, when he was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and advised Liver Transplant.

     

    The audience was very impressed with the detailed talks. Over 200 people signed for Organ pledging.
