Organ Donation Awareness talk for ANO’s at Training Academy

  • Dr. Ravi Wankhede Center Head of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur was invited by the DS (Coord) on behalf of the Commandant of NCC Officers Training Academy at Kamptee near Nagpur on 18th August 2018 to give a talk on Organ Donation and Transplantation to the Associated NCC Officers (ANO's), and others posted to NCC units all over the country. Dr. Wankhede a Veteran Medical Officer of Indian Air Force has been conducting the awareness talk at the NCC-OTA for the couple of years. This is an excellent opportunity for the participants to understand the subject which is of vital importance.

     

    In the beginning Dr. Wankhede was introduced by Col. Praveen Pande to the audience. Dr. Wankhede gave a Powerpoint Presentation in which he explained in detail about organ & tissue donation which could be done while living as well as after death. He mentioned that very little can be donated while living but after death one can donate quite a few organs and tissues. He explained in detail cardiac death and brain death. Dr. Wankhede stressed the need to understand Brain death a condition in which several organs could be donated provided the relatives gives consent. 

     

    At the end Dr. Ravi Wankhede stressed on the participants to carry the information to their respective States, as many States in the country do not have transplant facilities. He said NCC cadets are disciplined youths who could contribute to help spread awareness very effectively. He said, the ANO's can help organise a talk by experts of MOHAN Foundation.  242 ANO's took part in the session. 

     

    Col. Praveen Pande spoke in the end and exhorted the ANO's to take home the message to their respective place of residence, so that more and more number of people understand the subject. He presented a certificate and memento to Dr. Ravi Wankhede and thanked him for giving the presentation. Col Pande requested Dr. Wankhede to keep the pledge forms in the NCC-OTA which would be signed by the officers and later given to the office of MOHAN Foundation for issue of Donor Cards.
