Organ Donation Awareness program for the students of Thanthai Periyar school, Puzhuthivakkam, Chennai

  • Hindustan University College of Engineering and Technology invited Mohan Foundation to conduct a session on organ awareness on July 5, 2016 as part of their corporate social responsibilities among the students of plus one and plus two of Thanthai Periyar school in Puzhuthivakkam.  Thanthai periyar school is a govt aided school and had has been adopted by the college to empower students through various programs. The session was headed by Prof. Ganasekaran NSS coordinator of Hindustan University and MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mr. Ruban Victor.

    The session started with the motivation talk from Prof. Ganasekaran on why students need to know about organ donation and role of them in future.

    The second session started with awareness on organ donation.  The session was an interactive one, which helped the students to understand the concepts of organ donation. Difference between cardiac death and brain death was discussed. Mr. Ruban Victor explained the importance of eye donation, how it can change the life of people in darkness when someone donates their eyes. The students were introduced to the concept of  organ donation by giving them examples of Indian celebrities who have pledged their eyes. The importance of donor card was explained to the students.

    The living legacy of donors was briefed by narration of their stories. The session ended with a simple quiz and small gifts were distributed to the students who answered. 45 students participated in the session.
