Organ Donation Awareness for police trainees at TamilNadu Police Training College, Ashok Nagar

  • MOHAN Foundation presented an awareness talk on “Organ Donation” for the police personnel at TamilNadu Police Training College, Ashok Nagar on 26.08.2010.  The objectives of this program are to create awareness on organ donation and to ensure the importance of early submission of police inquest for post mortem. Police play a major role at the last step of organ donation process. Most of the families had to wait a day long after donating their loved ones organs for post mortem, this waiting time can be reduced only with the support of the police.

     

    Mr.Mukesh, Transplant Coordinator, explained the concept of organ donation brain death, important steps to be followed for eye donation at residence, age criteria for donating organs, and the importance of promoting the noble concept. Ms. Sujatha & Ms.Veena, Transplant Coordinators explained the contribution of police department, interesting case studies and the legal procedures involved in organ transplantation process. The coordinator emphasized more on the police inquest which has to be submitted for the post mortem process.  The participants raised queries regarding organ sharing and allocation, legal issues involved in live related and unrelated organ donation, and confidentiality. 200 members who had come for a Refresher course at TamilNadu Police Training College took part in the session.

     

     All 200 trainees pledged for an organ donor card. The programme was very effective and made a huge impact on the participants. Mr. Govi Manoharan, the Vice Principal of the college welcomed MOHAN Foundation to conduct similar programs for upcoming batches.
