  • On 10th August 2017, MOHAN Foundation was invited by TIMES OF INDIA for creating awareness for students and teachers of Ram Ratna Vidya Mandir School, Bhayander West, Mumbai.

Mrs.Jaya Jairam from MOHAN Foundation’s Mumbai office and Dr.Vinay Kumaran, a liver transplant specialist from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital conducted the awareness talks for around 150 students from 9th, 10th and 11th grades.

Dr.Vinay Kumaran started the session by sharing with the students as to what inspired him to become a transplant surgeon. Thereafter he discussed with them the functions of various organs in our body, what the general causes of organ failure are and which organs can be donated.

Subsequently, Mrs.Jaya Jairam introduced the topic of organ donation by talking about how wonderful we all feel while giving or receiving gifts and how some of our loved ones could be in need of the most valuable gift of all – a life-saving organ. She went on to explain about different types of donors, brain death and natural death, difference between coma and brain death, which organs and tissues could be donated and when. She also discussed the various myths and barriers prevailing in the society with respect to organ donation.

The students were told to discuss the topic of organ donation and taking the Pledge, with their parents. The students raised a lot of questions and all of them were clarified. Many of them decided to take the Pledge when they became adults.

MOHAN Foundation thanks, Ms.Prachi, Times NIE Coordinator and teacher Mrs.Kusum for organising the event.
