Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Tripude Nursing School in Nagpur

  • On 28 January 2016 Tripude Nursing school, Indora, Nagpur, invited Ms.Kanchan Shewde Organ transplant coordinator of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur to deliver a talk on organ donation and to spread awareness of the subject amongst ANM trainee. Mr. Salim Sahaha Principal of Tripude Nursing school, took the lead to arrange the talk.

    Ms. Kanchan Shewde gave an elaborate a talk on the historical, legal, social, religious and relevance of organ donation through PPP. She informed the gathering that organs and tissues could be donated while living as well as after death. She elaborated role of ZTCC and Organ transplant act. She stressed the need to donate eyes and skin in Natural death, as there was an eye bank nearby and that skin could be sent to Orange City Hospital Nagpur.

    She emphasized on ‘brain death’ a condition which needs to be understood to be a permanent and irreversible. Such patients are diagnosed in a Hospital with Intensive care services. She  said such patients have the potential to save eight patients requiring kidney’s, liver, heart, lungs, pancreas besides several tissues like eyes, skin, heart valves, bones, etc.

    What is different between coma and Brain death?

    What is different between tissue and Organ?

    What is the cause of Brain death?

     50 students and staff were present for the session. At the end of session ANM trainer Vanmala Meshram gave vote of thanks to MOHAN Foundation staff as well as ANM trainee and program was over.
