Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Rajiv Gandhi Government Arts and Science College, Puducherry by MOHAN Foundation

  • On 28 October 2013, an awareness session on Organ Donation and Transplantation was organized for the students, and staff  of  Rajiv Gandhi Government Arts and Science College, Puducherry.  Five departments of the college namely BCA , BBA, B.Sc (IT), B.Com, Cooperative Management  participated in the awareness session.

     

    Dr. Velu Raj, HOD of Cooperative Management welcomed the staff and students and Dr. Chyril, Principal gave a short introductory speech about Organ donation. It was followed by the presentation given by Mr. Ananth R, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai.

     

    In his two sessions he covered the following topics:

    1. Types of donors: Live donors (related, unrelated and swap) and deceased donors,
    2. Difference between natural death, brain death and coma,
    3. Organs that can be donated,
    4. Importance of  Donor Card,
    5. Role of Transplant Coordinator and
    6. Activities of MOHAN Foundation.

     

    There were a total of 219 students 8 staff who participated in the sessions. All supported the cause and picked up a donor card and information brochure. In addition, the principal Dr. Chyril picked 100 donor cards and information brochures for students who could not attend the session.
