Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women

  • MOHAN Foundation had an awareness talk for the students of Dr.MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women in association with State Bank of India and University Women’s Association of Madras. A registration desk was set up by Mr. Siva Shankar of MOHAN Foundation. The programme started at 11.30am on 9th Dec 2016. There were around 150 students who attended this awareness programme.

    The welcome speech was given by Ms. Srilakshmi, President, University Women’s Association Madras. She welcomed Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer by draping her with a shawl. Mr. Siva Guru, associate in SBI was also duly honoured. A short movie on organ donation was played for the students. 

    Dr. Hemal Kanvinde began the talk by giving a presentation on Organ Donation and its needs, in which the concept of BRAIN DEATH and reasons were explained clearly to the gathering. In between the presentation fun facts about our body and its functions were asked to the students and the answers were given.  After that the Myths of Organ Donation was explained properly to make the students understand that organ donation is not bad and in fact is a noble gesture.

    After the presentation there was a Q & A session which went on for a period of 15 minutes, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde explained very clearly and convincingly.  The discussion was on the need of organs, allocation criteria,  and the validity of the donor card, whether a will was essential, importance of convincing a family about the pledge.

    This was followed by a talk by Mr.Sivaguru of STATE BANK OF INDIA on using a  newly introduced app called “STATE BANK BUDDY” a mobile wallet app which can be used for cashless transactions.

    A student read out a Poem Life ... Pass it on in Tamil at the end of the programme. The college thanked MOHAN Foundation and State Bank of India for their valuable inputs.  16 students picked a donor card and supported the cause of organ donation.

    The programme ended by singing the National Anthem at 12.30pm.
