Organ Donation Awareness Program at Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur

  • On 29th August 2016, Sacred Heart College Tirupattur conducted an Organ Donation for their students. The students have been conducting several social activities as their part of their curriculum every month. So for the month of August they felt that it would be nice if they create more awareness on organ donation and decided to have a session in the campus. Mr. Anand Asst. Professor BBA approached MOHAN Foundation Chennai to support the event.                           

    The programme began with a welcome address and introduction by Mr. Anand, President, Youth Red Cross Club and invited all the participants. Mr. Prakash. K Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed at Stanley Hospital participated and explained about Needs & Importance of organ donation. To make the session interactive several case studies and documentary films were shown.

    During his presentation transplant coordinator has covered the following topics:

    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Difference between Brain death and Coma
    • Importance of the consent from the family
    • Importance of Donor card 
    • Tissues and organs  that can be donated
    • Transplant Coordinators Training Programme
    • Information sources - Helpline  and website

    More than 200 students and faculty participated and all of them pledged Donor Card and supported the noble cause. At the end of the programme Mr. Manohar Asst. Professor Dept of English gave the vote of thanks and he was very glad to conduct such an event every year.
