Organ Donation Awareness Drive at Arunodhaya, Royapuram

  • On 6th August 2016, Arunodhaya Center for Street and Working Children conducted an Organ Donation Drive and Ms. Suganthi, Programme officer invited Govt. Stanley Hospital to create awareness on Organ Donation for their organization staff. During their monthly review they invite different speakers. For the month of August the staff decided to have a talk on organ donation.                                                           

    The programme began with a welcome address and introduction by Mrs. Chitra, Project officer and invited all the participants. Dr. Kanimozhi, Dr. Karthick, Anesthetists, Mr. Senthil Kumar Transplant Coordinator from Govt. Stanley Hospital and Mr. Prakash. K Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed at Stanley Hospital participated. Dr. Kanimozhi spoke about need of organ donation, Mr. Senthil Kumar explained about the process of organ donation.

    Mr. Prakash K explained several case studies and covered the following topics in the presentation:

    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Difference between Brain death and Coma
    • Importance of the consent from the family
    • Importance of Donor card 
    • Tissues and organs  that can be donated
    • Transplant Coordinators Training Programme
    • Helpline

    More than 40 project officers, field staff and Anganvadi teachers participated and all of them pledged for organ donation by picking a donor card. At the end of the programme Mr. Veerappan Child India Coordinator gave a vote of thanks.
