Updated on Thursday, July 28, 2016
  • A talk on organ donation was organized by All India Malayalee Association (Tamil Nadu Unit) on 24th July 2016, at Hotel Rain Drops, Chennai. Fr. Davis Chiramel (Founder Kidney Federation of India), Ms. Sujatha.S (MOHAN Foundation) and Sri. P.T.Ali (Accident Death Care Cell) were the speakers for the day presided over by Sri. Gokulam Gopalan (National President, AIMA). Around 60 people attended the event.

Ms. Sujatha S asked the audience if they were aware of the struggle that patients with organ failure were going through and who  needed  a transplant, and if anyone had seen a patient first hand. She explained that organ transplantation is a growing need. She spoke about how in a live donation it is only possible to donate a kidney whereas in a deceased donation many organs and tissues can be donated, hence it is important to spread information about deceased donation.

Fr. Davis Chiramel spoke about the importance of organ donation. He spoke about the problems recipients face during their wait for an organ. And emphasized that organ donation is the only way to save people suffering with end stage organ failure.

Many from the audience were moved to take up the cause and registered as organ donors. We express our sincere thanks to Mr. Zachariah Cherian General Secretary (Tamil Nadu unit) All India Malayalee Association for organizing this programme.
