MOHAN Foundation is organising a “One Month Transplant Coordinators’ Training Programme” from 2nd to 29th May 2018 in Chennai.

    Introduction

The success of organ donation and transplantation depends upon good counselling and coordination by transplant coordinators. The Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Act, 2011, has made transplant coordinator nomination mandatory before a hospital is registered as a transplant centre. This means there is a huge requirement of transplant coordinators in close to 400 transplant centres in the country. In order to meet the growing demand for Transplant Coordinators, MOHAN Foundation has embarked upon training programmes to suit the needs of these health care professionals. We have conducted 50 training programmes in the country and trained 1723 transplant coordinators over the past eight years (December 2009 – November 2017).

    About the programme

Transplant coordinators deal with counselling the families of brain dead patients, coordinating the retrieval and transplantation of organs/tissues, and looking after recipients – pre and post transplant. They need to be cognizant of the medical, legal and ethical aspects of organ donation and transplantation. The training programme covers all of these aspects with sessions by eminent medical professionals and senior transplant coordinators. There will also be in-depth interactive sessions on counselling and grief counselling, soft skills, Human Resource & Organisational Behaviour. A number of hands-on group activities will be a part of the training. The participants will be taken for field visits to a dialysis unit, blood bank and eye bank, and they will also undergo Basic Life Support training.

At the end of the training, every successful participant will be in a position to create a roadmap for initiating an organ donation programme in his or her hospital / city / region and work as the key resource person to spearhead organ donation and transplant-related activities.
