Nursing students sensitized about organ donation for a Community program

  • In view of starting the community program for the first year nursing students, the Pondicherry Institute Medical Sciences (PIMS), College of Nursing invited MOHAN Foundation for an awareness program on organ donation for them on 31st October 2016.

    The program commenced with the prayer song by the nursing students followed by a prayer from Rev. A. Dayavaran, Dr. Rebecca, Dean spoke on the community program, the chief guest's speech was given by Dr. Zile Singh, H.O.D Community medicine of PIMS and enlightened them on the importance of community program. After the chief guest's speech a session on organ donation was taken by Mr. Ruban Victor of MOHAN Foundation.

    The session started with the concepts of organ donation. What is organ donation, who can donate and current scenario of organ donation, the difference between the live donor and deceased donor and live related and unrelated donations was explained. The causes of brain death were discussed. It was apt to enlighten the 90 students who will help to take the concept to the community people to know about organ donation. The vote of thanks was given Prof. Chelliah of the Nursing College
