  • MOHAN Foundation was invited to give an awareness talk on 27th September, 2017 for NCC Cadets consisting of College and School students at an NCC camp held in Pachaiyappa’s College for Men, Kanchipuram. Around 400 NCC Cadets and officials attended the programme. Mr. Siva Shankar T.S, Helpline Executive and Ms. Ann Alex, Programme Associate represented MOHAN Foundation.

Mr. Siva Shankar began by explaining organ donation. He elucidated on the concept of Brain Death. The session was made interactive by questions being asked to the cadets such as – organs that can be donated when alive and after death, the age factor and time involved.   The cadets were very enthusiastic to answer the questions.

Questions raised by the cadets were –

    1. Can the brain be donated?
    2. What is the importance of DNA and how is it related to transplantation?
    3. How does carrying a donor card help an individual?

After the session, cadets were divided into groups. Mr. Siva Shankar assisted some of the cadets in poster making and a skit. Ms. Ann helped few of the other cadets show their support by forming into the shape of the organ donation symbol. The cadets then presented their skit which was on how the counsellor speaks to the family and on how the organ is retrieved from the donor and transplanted to the recipient. The posters on recycling organs and donating organs were presented by the cadets to the others.

We would like to thank Col. Pankaj Sharma of 3rd Tamil Nadu NCC battalion for inviting MOHAN Foundation to address the Cadets.
