MOHAN Foundation sets an information and registration stall at the Nagpur Walkathon – Walk for life

  • 'Walkathon' is an annual event of the 69 years old Rotary Club of Nagpur. This year saw more than 6500 participants on a lovely Sunday morning of 16th February 2014 in the lush greenery of Civil Lines, Nagpur. The gathering started at 6 am in the morning and lasting till 10.30 am with participants walking 3, 6 and 9 km.

     

    For the first time a stall was put up by the MOHAN Foundation in association with the Organ Donation Awareness Committee to create anawareness about the importance of Organ Donation to save millions of lives. Rtn. Dr. Ravi Wankhede and Rtn. Shiraz Doongaji are the Chairpersons of the Committee. President of The Rotary Club Rtn. Prashant Kale, Secretary Rtn. Sunil Bhatia and Rtn. Prashant Choudhary the Director of Medical Services provided the required support. Staff of MOHAN Foundation manned the stall. Information pamphlets, information standees, pledge forms and donor cards prepared by MOHAN Foundation were placed in the stall.

     

    Dr. Hemal Kanvinde from MOHAN Foundation, Chennai was in Nagpur and participated by helping Transplant Coordinators of Nagpur Centre Ms. Kanchan Shevde and Mr. Bulu Behera in explaining thye concepts of organ donation to  the visitors at the stall. Green ribbons were pinned on the jersey of the participants of the Walkathon.  This created an upbeat atmosphere with many participants asking the significance of the green ribbon.  Announcement of the presence of the stall was made several times urging the participants to  visit the stall and pledge their organs. The stall attracted many visitors who learnt about the importance of organ donation, as well as what organs can be donated while living and after natural and brain death. More than 250 people visited the stall, 87 filled the form and pledged to donate organs. Many people carried the pamphlets.
