MOHAN Foundation reaches out to new areas in Organ Donation awareness.

  • Dr. Ravi Wankhede was invited by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Pusad  in Yavatmal district and Pusad Vaidyakiya Sanghatna  to deliver a talk on organ donation on 18th December 2016.

    A Walkathon was organized was flagged off by Dr. Ravi Wankhede at Chatrapati Shivaji square which ended at N P Hirani Polytechnic College ground where a more than 75 organizations took part like Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, Pusad Chambers of Commerce, Maratha Mandal, Rajasthani Mandal, Patanjali Yog Samini, etc. Present on the occasion were Shri. Manoharlal Naik, Smt. Anitatai Naik and others from family of  former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Vasantrao Naik.

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede was introduced by Dr. Mrs. Meena Agrawal the President of IMA Pusad. Dr.  Wankhede gave a talk on the importance of donating organs and tissues such as eye and skin. He explained the type of donors and brain death. The IMA had printed pledge forms which were later distributed to those who wanted to pledge organ donation. The pledge forms would later be sent to Dr. Ravi Wankhede at Nagpur. Dr. Mangala Chauhan the Secretary and Dr. Sheetal Bhandari the Treasurer worked hard in organizing the event.

    A meeting of a few doctors was organized which was addressed by Dr. Wankhede. He stressed the need to have at least one Non Transplant Organ Retrieval Centre (NTORC), which would help organs of patients whose families would consent. He informed that Nagpur and Aurangabad are equidistant from Pusad and hence these two cities could be of help to carryout organ retrieval at Pusad itself. Dr. Wankhede assured the doctors that he would provide assistance should any hospital decide to register for NTORC status.
