MOHAN Foundation conducts an Organ Donation Sensitization Program at Madurai Kidney Care Centre

  • MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness program for staff of Madurai Kidney Care Centre, Madurai. Transplant Coordinator of the hospital Mr. Ganesan, organized the session on 22nd February 2018 at 9 AM. Mr. Siva Shankar Helpline Executive, MOHAN Foundation conducted the sensitization program.

    Dr. T. Dhinakaran, Director of the Hospital started the session with a welcome speech. He appreciated the activities of the hospital including the 12 kidney transplants done in a year. He further wanted his hospital nurses and other satff to know more about organ donation.

    Mr. Siva Shankar then took over the session with a presentation explaining the Concepts of Organ Donation.  He covered the following points

    1. Organ Donation and the organs that can be donated
    2. The Law on Organ Donation
    3. Types of donors, tissues and organs that can be donated
    4. Brain Death, Coma and natural Death
    5. Donor Card, Helpline, and ways to promote organ donation in hospital
    6. Cornea donation
    7. Transplant Coordinators Training Program

    Transplant Coordinator, Mr. Ganesan explained his duties in the hospital as a transplant coordinator.  He explained how and when other sections of the hospital get involved in the case of a transplant. The entire session went on for 45 minutes. There were around 30 nurses and other administrative staff who attended the session.  10 of them pledged their organs and took their donor cards.
