MOHAN Foundation conducts an Organ Donation Awareness Programme at TNPA - 4

  • Tamil Nadu Police Academy (TNPA) conducts a refresher training programme for the serving officers. It usually is a 2 to 3 day training. This year they added “Organ Donation” as a topic for training. MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct the session on Organ Donation and Role of Police in the Organ Donation process. On 19 July 2018, a session was organized for 20 Inspectors and Sub Inspectors at Syndicate Block, Tamil Nadu Police Academy (TNPA), Oonamachery, Chennai.

    Mr. T. S.  Siva Shankar, Helpline Executive and Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh, were deputed from MOHAN Foundation to conduct the programme.  Mrs. Kavitha started with few questions to understand their experience and knowledge like:  any previous experience in organ donation; what is brain death and experience in organizing “Green Corridor”.  The group was very responsive but didn’t have much knowledge on Organ Donation.

    She explained on the following topics:

    1. When, where, what, why, whom and how in Organ Donation
    2. Explained different forms of Death
    3. Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994
    4. Government Authorities involved
    5. Organ Donation Process
    6. Role of police involved in the process

    The session came to an end by narrating real time deceased donation case-story conducted at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. She explained how the investigating police officers helped in a successful donation.  At the end of the session donor cards, information brochures and special “Process Posters” were distributed.
