  • On 15th July 2017, MOHAN Foundation Organ Donation Awareness team went to Gill Adarsh Matriculation Higher Secondary School to conduct the second class of the ‘Angels of Change’ program. The team reached the school campus by 11:00am and the classes started within five minutes of quick arrangements. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde began the class with a recap of the previous session and directly entered into the subject with the help of a slide presentation.

Dr. Hemal exercised dramatic ways of teaching on how organ donation is done and how organ allocation is done, this helped the participants to have a very clear picture of organ donation and allocation process. This resembled the PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) technique, as it helped each participant to work as a team and take up roles such as, ⦁ Deceased donor⦁ Family members of the deceased donor⦁ Donor’s doctor⦁ Counsellor ⦁ Recipients from various hospitals for each organ(s)⦁ Recipient’s doctor ⦁ Surgeon at donor’s hospital ⦁ Ambulance

After this, the participants were classed according to their projects (like public survey team, public awareness team and poster team) and were given effective training. Mr. Siva Shankar gave training to public awareness team and Dr. Hemal gave training to the Poster team and survey team.

At the end of the class, recipient testimony was screened and participants were instructed to write a ‘Thanks Letter’ as though the recipient is extending her gratitude towards the donor’s family and finally the session ended with a photo session.

Highlights of the day:⦁ The most interesting and quick informative part was Dr. Hemal’s dramatic way of teaching how organ donation is done and transplantation takes place and who and all involved into this process.⦁ Intense practise was given especially to the Public Awareness Team ⦁ Suggestions such as usage of proper color charts and color pens for making posters  more effective. ⦁ One teacher of the same school spent her time with us by supporting and monitoring the class throughout the program. She shared her story of her sister being a living donor. ⦁ In this school, the survey team was very enthusiastic and eager in doing a presentation of their public survey and this adds color to the picture drawn by MOHAN Foundation.
