  • This World Kidney Day on 8th March 2018, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the Sri Narayani Hospital and Research Center, Vellore, to conduct an awareness program towards organ donation. Mr. Ruban Victor and Mr. Britzer Paul represented MOHAN Foundation.   Dr. K. Venkataramanam, the HoD of Nephrology welcomed the resources persons from the MOHAN Foundation.

The audience of 150 was a mixture of both school students and nursing students. Mr. Ruban Victor, gave a talk on basic information regarding organ donation; types of deaths; brain death certification and causes; uses of a donor card and the law regulating Organ donation. School students were more proactive during the session. To our surprise when asked about the organs that can be donated while living, all the participants said a kidney can be donated but only one school student rose up and said a partial portion of the liver can also be donated.  This helped us to understand the level of awareness that is spread across all age groups. They were also aware of the time duration for corneal donation.

As the nursing students were involved in clinical rotations they were aware about the conditions of a brain death patient. Most of the nursing students also took the donor card and said that they will pass on this message to their next of kin.
