Indrayani Hospital celebrates Independence day with a stall on Organ Donation

    On the occasion of Independence Day, Dr. Arti Dharaskar organized a health checkup camp at Indrayani Hospital, Ramdaspeth, Nagpur. She invited MOHAN Foundation to arrange a stall for creating awareness among people about organ donation & transplantation, on August 15, 2016.   Ms. Kanchan Shewde organized a stall & gave the following information to the people with the help of pledge form, brochures & banner.

    Ms. Kanchan Shewde, transplant coordinator gave information about the organs and tissues that could be donated while living as well as after death. She elaborated role of ZTCC and Organ Transplant Act. She stressed the need to donate eyes and skin after natural death, as there was an eye bank nearby and that skin could be sent to Orange City Hospital.

    She gave information how a ‘brain death’ patient can save eight patients requiring kidneys, liver, heart, lungs, pancreas besides several tissues like eyes, skin, heart valves, bones, etc.

    Questions asked by participants:-

    What is the importance of Donor card?

    How you know after our death?

    What is bone marrow?

    During the day, approximately 50 patients came to the stall and 1 patient signed consent form and took donor card.
