India’s premier public sector bank takes up a cause in Chennai

  • On July 21, 2016, MOHAN Foundation was invited by State Bank of India (SBI) to its regional office in Chennai for an awareness program on organ donation to its employees. The session began with the welcome speech by Mr. V. Sasindaran Chief Development Officer of SBI welcoming the MOHAN Foundation staff for the program. He highlighted the work of the NGO and the long relationship between the two organizations.

    The session started with the screening of videos about recipient’s life and donor memorial videos.  Dr. Hemal addressed the gathering about the concepts of organ donation, laws pertaining to organ transplantation, the difference between cardiac death and brain death was explained to the employees. The organs which can be donated when people are alive and organs which can be donated after brain death were explained. 

    The statistics on number of organs donated from 2008 till 2016 in Tamil Nadu was shown. The role of registry and how people are getting benefitted through organ donors were discussed. The session ended with the video on recipients talk which moved the gathering.

    Question asked during the session-  

    Is there any registry for bone marrow transplant?

    Mr. Ruban Victor manned an information desk and gave brochures to the staff.  45 employees attended the session and 15 picked a donor card.  MOHAN Foundation thanks Mr. R. Selvaraj, AGM PR from the SBI office for the arrangements for the program.
