Extra Mural Lecture on organ donation at IIT, Jodhpur

  • On October 15, 2014, Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur invited Ms. Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director, Delhi-NCR) to deliver a lecture on organ donation for its faculty and students.

     

    Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur was started in 2008. They are still in the formative years of developing the Institute and are in the process of developing a culture of responsible technology education providers. The lecture was part of the Extra Mural Lecture series which aims to create a unique space where students and faculty colleagues have an opportunity to engage and interact with a person with an area of expertise. The institute believes that these meaningful exchanges of ideas with the visionary leaders of the country will help their students and faculty members gain a holistic perspective of life. The invite was from the Director of the Institute, Mr. C V R Murthy and was facilitated by Ms Vidya Sarveswaran, Assistant Professor.

     

    The talk covered various aspects of organ donation, brain death, THO Act and the state wise readiness on organ donation. The group was informed that the Foundation has recently begun work in Jaipur, Rajasthan and has received a very positive response from the Rajasthan government. A film on brain death was also shown to the group. In a meeting with the director, he expressed his willingness and interest in contributing to the cause by encouraging the faculty and students to engage in using technology to further some aspect of organ donation.

     

    Close to 100 students attended the talk along with about 15 faculty members. About 50 donor cards were picked up.
