CME on Cardiac Transplantation at Asian Institute of Medical Science, Faridabad

  • On 11th September, 2014 a CME on Cardiac Transplantation was held at the auditorium of Asian Institute of Medical Science, Faridabad. The main aim of the CME was to gather the support and cooperation of the medical fraternity, especially the cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to ensure the success of cardiac transplantation in the country and to spread the message of organ donation. Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR was invited as a speaker for the event.

     

    Asian Institute Of Medical Sciences, is a NABH and NABL accredited, 350 bedded super specialty tertiary care hospital .It is truly futuristic in its services & technology and brings together some of the most talented medical professionals in India. The hospital provides preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitative, palliative and support services all under one roof and is designed to meet patient care and research requirements of the new millennium. The Institute is also involved in research medical & paramedical Education.

     

    The CME started off with a welcome address by Dr. Arvind, CME Coordinator, Asian Institute of Medical Science.

     

    The first speaker of the day was Ms. Pallavi who stressed on the need for proper systems to be placed in hospitals to ensure the success of the Deceased Organ Donation Programme. She also emphasised on the role of the Government to come forward and take active interest in the cause and help spread awareness both amongst the general public and medical fraternity so that there is an increase in the number of people signing as organ donors which at present is truly dismal in our country. She also stressed on the need and importance of a transplant coordinator to facilitate the smooth functioning of the events following brain death. A short film  on brain death was also shown to ensure better understanding of the same.

     

    The second speaker of the day was Dr. K.K.Talwar, Chairman, Cardiology; Max Healthcare. He spoke about the status and history of Cardiac Transplant in the country. He also emphasized on the need of networking and cooperation among the medical fraternity and well placed systems throughout the country to ensure the success of deceased organ donation activity.

     

    The last speaker of the CME was Dr. Kewal Krishan, Senior Consultant- CTVS, Max Heart and Vascular Institute, Max Hospital, Saket. He spoke about the stages of heart failure, different types of the heart devices and surgeries, the importance of better immunosuppressive drugs for better life survival of the patient and the importance of organ donation without which nothing would be possible. He urged all those present to spread the message of organ donation as one donation could give life to almost eight people and enhance the lives of many more.

     

    The CME concluded with the handing over off mementos of appreciation to the speakers by Dr. Ramesh Chandna, Director, Quality & Lab Services, Asian Institute of Medical Science.

     

    A total of 100 people attended the CME and 3 donor cards were picked up.
