CME at Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute, Kanchipuram District

  • MOHAN Foundation conducted a CME at Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute, Ammapettai, Kanchepuram on 28th February 2015.  The theme was Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs- Social, Ethical & Legal Aspects. Dr. Pravir Bodkha, Head of Forensic Medicine  organised the CME for  clinical, non clinical teaching staff, students and interns.

     

    At the inauguration the Dean Dr. J. Mohanasundaram  and Medical Superintendent Dr Thandalam were present.  Both of them spoke of the value of organ donation and the initial days of formatting the  protocols in GH.

     

    The topics discussed were

    Basic concepts of organ donation  – Ms.  S. Kavitha

    Law in Tranplantation – Dr. Hemal Kanvinde

    Ethical aspects of Transplantation - Dr. Sumana Navin

    Early days of Cadaver Transplantation – Dr. J. Mohanasundaram

    Brain Death – Dr. J. Amalorpavanathan

    Medico-legal cases and counselling of families –  Mr. K.  Prakash

     

    The students had made a short movie on cancer and it was released on the occasion.   Dr. Suthandhira Devi  spoke of her personal experience on a donation  that gave her husband  a life and the donor needing a donation now. Dr. Bodkha was leaving for Indore the next day so this CME was also a send off for him. We hope he continues  to create awareness about organ donationin his new  assignment. 

     

    A stall was placed near the registration desk for those interested in pledging their organs.  More than 100 students pledged and picked a donor card. Around 200 students interns and 20 faculty of the college  attended the CME.
