Awareness program on organ donation for staff of Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Nagpur

  • On 27 October 2016, Pradeep Astankar Scientific Assistant at the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Dhantoli, Nagpur  invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an awareness program on organ donation for the staff.

    Mr. Bulu Behera Transplant Coordinator, Nagpur center gave a talk through audio-visual aids & the spoke about the difference between cardiac death, coma and brain death, which organs can be donated after cardiac death and brain death. The importance of donor card how it helps people to donate organs, value of wearing a helmet, need for organs, the legal and ethical aspects of organ donation and the process of pledging to organs were also explained. He informed the laboratory staff about the process of organ donation and about Medico legal cases and how the forensic doctors play an important role. He requested the participants to use MOHAN Foundation website and helpline number to learn more about organ donation.

    Question asked by participants:-

    1) What is the priority list for organ donation?

    2) What is the role of MOHAN Foundation in Organ Donation?

    3) Whom to contact for Eye Donation?  

    4) Where is the MOHAN Foundation office in Nagpur?

    5) Is MOHAN Foundation getting money from hospital if organ donation happens?

    6) If postmortem has to be done, how are the organs retrieved?

    The session highlighted how they can be part of this noble cause by pledging the organ and how it can help other in joining the cause.

    30 staffs attended the session and 2 of them picked donor card.
