  • On September 27, 2016, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness talk on organ donation for NCC Cadets at NCC Headquarters auditorium in Delhi Cantonment. The talk was initiated by Col. Manish and further coordinated by Col. Dahiya. This was the second talk that took place following the meeting of Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MF, Delhi-NCR, with Major General J. S. Sandhu, ADG (B), HQ DG (NCC) on a structured partnership to create awareness on organ donation among the NCC Cadets. The NCC cadets present were from across 17 states and were there for their annual training camp. Ms. Pallavi took the session and was accompanied by Ms. Mareena Thomas, Programme Officer, Delhi-NCR.

One of the biggest eye openers for the cadets was that a person who is brain dead is 'dead' and it is only in the case of brain death that one can donate organs. Ms. Pallavi tried to focus on the ethical issues around organ donation and asked the cadets for their opinions on the same. She stated it very clearly that commercial dealing of organs is illegal and punishable under the law. Ms. Pallavi also asked  their view on why the system doesn't allow the recipient's identity to be disclosed to the donor's family. To this a very smart cadet quickly added that it is to protect the recipient and his family from being harassed if such a situation arises in the future. Ms. Pallavi also encouraged the cadets to spread the message to where they came from. She mentioned that the cadets should become the messengers of such a lifesaving cause.

The cadets were very enthusiastic and had many queries. Around 1100 cadets attended the session and most of them wanted the Donor Card which was left with their supervisor.
