  • On November 28, 2015 Mr. Naval Aggarwal and Ms. Anuradha Aggarwal, volunteers trained under Angels of Change Program, conducted their first public awareness session on organ donation for the staff of Sehgal Neo Hospital in  the hospital's auditorium.

This is the last phase of the training that requires the volunteers to organise and conduct a public awareness session on their own before being awarded the, 'Angel of Change Volunteer,' certificate. The session was jointly conducted by Mr and Ms Aggarwal and Dr. Muneet Sahi and Sonam were the observers from the Foundation. The awareness session was organised at Sehgal Neo Hospital through the initiative taken by Dr. Yoginder Gupta (Senior Consultant, Medicine).

Anuradha started the session by explaining what is organ donation, who can be an organ donor and what organs can be donated in case of cardiac and brain death. She then requested Naval to conduct the second half of the talk. Naval began the talk by giving a small introduction of himself as being a living example of a deceased organ (liver) recipient. He shared with the participants how drastically the transplant changed his life and how grateful he was for his second lease of life, which had been possible because of the generosity of the family of a young deceased organ donor.

He addressed the participants on what is brain death and its causes, the difference between brain death and cardiac death, the need for organ donation and India's organ donation rate and where does it stand on the organ donation world map statistics. He also spoke briefly about the THO Act and gave information on how one can pledge their organs by filling up the donor card or Form no 7 (Organ & Tissue Pledging Form of the THO & Tissues Rules 2014). In the end, he stressed on the need to talk about one's decision of becoming an organ donor with the family and promote the cause by motivating other people to pledge their organs upon death.

Dr. Muneet filled in the gaps wherever required.

Around 45 people attended the session.
