Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Indian Red Cross Society - Punjab, Chandigarh

  • On 25thApril 2018, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the secretary, Red Cross - Punjab, Chandigarh to conduct an awareness talk on organ donation for their First Aid Lecturer Training camp at Vivekanand Bhawan, Chandigarh. Around 80 Lecturers from various parts of Punjab participated in the camp.

     

    Mr. Amarjeet Singh, Camp Director addressed the gathering and gave a brief introduction on organ donation to the participants and telling them how important is Organ Donation and it provides the opportunity to improve the quality of life and saving lives of others.

     

    Participants were given an introduction and presentation on organ donation and brain death by Ms. Aakriti Negi.

     

    During her talk she explained the following points: -

    • Organ donation types and who can be a donor
    • The status of Organ Donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
    • She challenged 5 myths with 5 facts on Organ Donation
    • Difference between natural death and brain death
    • Age is not a constraint in donating their organs.
    • Real life stories of organ donation shared with the participants and how they became a legacy
    • Importance of a donor card
    • To pledge their organs, they can register at MOHAN Foundation
    • MOHAN Foundation's mission & vision

    .

    The entire group got motivated and it was an interactive session. All the questions were answered at the end of the presentation and 60 donor cards were being picked up by the participants. In the end they showed great interest and would love to share their wish with their families.
