Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (Dial) Office, New Udaan Bhawan, New Delhi

  • On October 5, 2015, MOHAN Foundation was invited for an awareness session on organ donation at the Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (DIAL) Office at New Udaan Bhawan, New Delhi. The session was organised by the CSR arm of DIAL and coordinated by Ms. Rupali Agarwal (Programme Officer/DIAL-CSR).

     

    DIAL is a joint venture, formed as a consortium between GMR Group (54%), Airports Authority of India (26%), and Fraport AG & Eraman Malaysia (10% each). In January 2006, the consortium was awarded the concession to operate, manage and develop the IGI Airport following an international competitive bidding process. DIAL signed the Operations, Management and Development Agreement (OMDA) on April 4, 2006 with the AAI. DIAL has won the No. 1 Airport award in India for Operation, Management & Development of the new integrated passenger terminal building T3 at the Infrastructure Excellence Awards 2012.

     

    The event, 'Daan Utsav,' was being celebrated from Oct 5 - 8, 2015 and as part of the inaugural function on Oct 5 a talk on organ donation was organised and MOHAN Foundation was invited to deliver the same. The event began with the lamp lighting ceremony by the chief guest, Mr. I.P.Rao (CEO-DIAL) accompanied by Mr. Brajesh Gupta (Program leader-CSR) and Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi. Mr. I.P.Rao in his address appreciated his CSR team's efforts for bringing together everyone on board for such a noble cause like organ donation and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

     

    Dr. Muneet took the session and she was accompanied by Ms. Sonam. The talk mainly focussed on basic facts of organ donation and transplantation. A short film on brain death was shown to the participants when the subject was being addressed. Special mention was given to eye donation and the Transplantation of Human Organs Act. At the end of the session the importance of carrying a donor card and what does it represent was also shared. While the subject of donor card was being discussed, a participant shared her observation that in the United States the applicants applying for the driving licence are asked to join the organ donor register by ticking the box that gives option of organ donation.

     

    The session came to an end with 9 people picking up the donor cards out of a group of 37 participants.
