Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Ashray Foundation, Navi Mumbai

  • On 22nd May, 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Mrs. Chandravati Rao incharge of Ashray Foundation, an old age home for senior citizens, Navi Mumbai (Nerul sec-19) to conduct an awareness session on Organ Donation.

     

    Mrs. Jigisha yadav started explaining on what is Organ Donation, when, who, why and how it can be done? Then she spoke about what is transplantation. She briefly focused on the need for organs, India’s organ donation rate, brain stem death, how to diagnose, certify and who can certify, cornea donation, religious barriers, and myths related to organ donation. She also explained about the Laws and Entity of Maharashtra.

     

    The members actively participated and it was quite interactive with many questions being asked and answered. The members had some specific queries on tissue and organ donation which were answered.

     

    About 45 members attended the program and were distributed information brochures and 6 of them have pledged for Organ Donation.

     

    We are grateful to Mr.Telwali a member of Ashray Foundation BSKD (Bombay South Kanada Braham) and Mrs. Chandravati Rao, a caretaker at Ashray Foundation, for supporting the cause of organ donation.
