Awareness Program on Organ Donation for Outpatient Department Staff Nurse

  • On 07-07-17 Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences Nursing department invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an awareness program on organ donation to the outpatient department staff nurse and ward staff.

    The session started with the video on organ donation and followed by a presentation on the concepts of organ donation. During the presentation the differences between live donor and deceased donor was explained, followed by organs which can be donated in the event of cardiac death. The session also discussed what organ failure is and how a deceased save an organ failure patient.

    Mr. Ruban explained what brain stem dead is and what are the causes of brain stem dead. The organs which can be donated by brain dead person and time taken for retrieval of different organs were shown to the staff members. The donor memorial stories of the different donors were shared with the participants. The program ended on how staff members can show their support towards organ donation by pleading the donor

    60 nurses attended and 45  of them pledged with a donor card.
