Angels of Change from MMM College of Nursing organised a seminar on Organ donation for Nursing Students

  • Resource persons from MOHAN Foundation were invited for a seminar on Organ Donation for the nursing students. It was organized by the Angels of Change from MMM College of Nursing in association with the surgical department of Madras Medical Mission (MMM) Hospital. The seminar was conducted on 28 October 2017 at the Zachariah mar Dionysius Auditorium in the Hospital. 400 students from 5 nursing colleges attended the seminar.

    The program started with a prayer song, followed by a speech by Dr. Rosalin Rachael, Principal of MMM College of Nursing sharing on the happiness one receives by giving. The session continued with the welcome address by Mrs. Shoba. G, Vice Principal of the College.

    The first session was an overview on Organ donation which was done by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde.  Dr. Hemal Kanvinde explained about the development of transplant therapy, surgical and medical, the development in India and Tamil Nadu and the activities of MOHAN Foundation to promote deceased Organ Donation. She also explained the concepts of Organ donation to the students.  She shared the current statistics of transplants in Tamil Nadu till date. She stressed on the topic of Brain Death.

    The session was continued by Mr. Siva Shankar with a picture connection game based on Tamil films which have a component of Organ Donation. All the students enjoyed the session and answering the quiz.

    After this session, the Angels had organized other speakers to speak on Brain Death, Kidney, Heart and Liver Transplants, cornea donation, legal and ethical aspects of donation, counselling and importance of hospital protocols.

    MOHAN Foundation thanks the MMM College of Nursing, the Angels and the Surgical unit for organizing a comprehensive seminar for student nurses.
