A social initiative by the students of Sri Chitra Thirunal Engineering College, Trivandrum

  • On 8th March 2014, Sri Chitra Thirunal Engineering College, organized an Organ Donation Awareness campaign for the NSS students, IT Cell from all over Kerala and to the public. They invited “Mrithasanjeevani’ to address the gathering. The campaign was scheduled in to two slots. The fist slot was for the NSS students and Second slot was for the public at Shangamukkam Beach.

    Slot 1: Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Sri Chitra Thirunal Engineering College, Trivandrum

    The talk was organized at Seminar hall. Dr. Noble Gracious, Nodal Officer, Mrithasanjeevani gave brief note on KNOS and KNOS activities. Following that Mr. Aneesh. P. V, Transplant Coordinator, Mrithasanjeevani spoke on

    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Difference between Brain death and Coma
    • Importance of the consent from the family
    • Importance of Donor card 
    • Tissues and organs  that can be donated
    • Transplant Coordinators Training Programme
    • Organ Allocation
    • Transplant registry

     

    At the end of the session few queries were raised by the group like,

    1. Is Organ allocation done authentically?
    2. If I have to register in KNOS, what is the procedure?
    3. Why there is no Organ bank, where we can save the Kidney for 48 hrs?

     

    The queries were answered by Dr. Noble Gracious.

     

    Slot 2: Campaign on organ donation at Shankamugam Beach for the public.

    The NSS students from various colleges gathered at the point. To convey the message of Organ Donation various steps were taken like Sand sculpture, street theater, Flash Mob were performed by the NSS students and an information stall was placed and its was manned by Transplant Coordinators of MOHAN Foundation - Mr. Aneesh. P. V, Ms. Kavitha. S and Ms. Neethu.  Public gathered to watch the performance and also walked in to the information stall to know about organ donation. Nearly 70 people filled the organ donation form.
